Sustainability and living quality

We  developed a furniture collection made out of Plywood regarding the new challenges that arise in contemporary construction in which sustainability has become the leitmotiv.

Houses and living spaces becoming increasingly smaller. Partly due to higher land prices, the cost of building materials and the benefits of insulation.

The emerging question is how people can maintain living quality in these new structures.

The option we propose involves the development of furniture that can be conveniently assembled and dismantled. No screws, nails, glue or hinges are used. The furniture is self supported.

The furniture is offered as a flat package so that it can be conveniently stored or retrieved.

This means that chairs can easily be exchanged for seats when you want to chill. A dining table can be partially or completely dismantled and stored away to make room for a coffee table...

On the other hand people tend to relocate more often. From student flat to a first rental apartment, a starter home and later on  -when the family expands - they will look for a larger comfortable house.  Finally they can move to a practical stay suited for the elderly.  Due to professional circumstances or a changing family condition moving is also considered.

This furniture collection can easily be fit in different living spaces and is very convenient when resettling.

Aesthetics

When developing the furniture an emphasis is put on style. The minimalist design does not change the fact that they demonstrate a strong aesthetic. Ornamentation was suppressed as much as possible unless it made a functional contribution.

Crossover: art & design

It has also been decided to (completely) transform the furniture into works of art. Both the furniture design as well as the works of art can be offered independently of each other. This gives the dichotomy between art and design a special dimension.

Art & design history

By using primary and achromatic colors, as well as by the concept itself, you 'll find  references to architecture, design and art history.

Postscript

It's obvious that the way in which the furniture is presented it can easily (and sustainably) be transported. Moreover, it can also be meaningful in the broader context of 'shelter design'.
